President Hassan Rowhani named Ali Asghar Fani on Sunday as the caretaker of the education ministry three days after his proposed minister failed to win the parliament's vote of confidence, according to news agencies.
Mohammad Ali Najafi, who was on the list of Rowhani's cabinet, was rejected by the Iranian MPs on Thursday. Najafi secured 142 votes in favor, 133 against with nine abstentions.
On Saturday, President Rowhani appointed Najafi as his vice-president and the head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization.
Also on Saturday, the president named Ja'far Towfighi Dariyan as the caretaker of the ministry of science, research and technology.
Ja’far Mili Monfared, Rowhani's picked name for the ministry, failed to escape a vote of no-confidence after he collected 105 yes votes, 162 no votes and 15 abstentions on the floor.
Reza Salehi Amiri was given a presidential decree to be in charge of the ministry of sports and youth.
This came after Massoud Soltanifar did not get the blessing of parliament. His share of the legislative vote was 117 votes in favor, 148 against and 18 abstentions.
The Iranian parliament gave a vote of confidence to 15, out of 18, ministers put forward by the president on Thursday following four days of intensive debates on the past performance and future plans of the men on the cabinet makeup.
